Details on the Gibson, Dunn and Cruccher report, intended to exonerate Chris Christie of all Bridgegate blame, stands out as a heavy-handed attempt to not only verbally exalts Christie but also attempts to steer attention to Bridget Kelly and Bill Stepien.
It appears to be dramatized, prepared and calculated to cover all probable prosecution bases that will be covered in any future probe. The real lamb of sacrifice is an emotionally unstable Bridget Kelly, desolate after being tossed from a love nest. It is a scenario fit for any newsstand tabloid. The mystery is solved. It has to do with an emotional woman. It’s not politics.
Randy Mastro spent considerable time – with several separate references — dispensing tabloid fodder for his own standup before the media. Bridget Ann Kelly and Bill were seeing one another, and Bridget was dumped by Bill Stepien prior to the lane closures at the George Washington Bridge. Several times during his closeup, Mastro suggested that Bridget somehow went off the deep end just before the lanes were closed, orchestrating it herself. Bridget is marked with the scarlet letter “E” for errant and emotional, hoping to isolate her. Meanwhile Chistie gets a “PPP” for pompous, partisan and powerful. Chris Christie goes bully mode again. His period of contrition is short. Off with the mourning and near-tears. On with browbeat.
To one reporter, “It’s beneath the job you hold,” to ask me any insinuating questions. To another, in his old aggressive and proud mantra, “The facts are on my side. I have been cleared of any wrongdoing. End of story.”
He even hits reverse on his story and claims that David Samson wanted to retire from the Port Authority a year ago but stayed on at his request, implying that now at 74, Samson is tired. To many that too seems programmed to get Samson out when the heat cools.
Christie had answers for everything, almost as though they were rehearsed for a play, to make sure the story would unfold as was programmed. The next step of the plan: Las Vegas.
Billionaire Sheldon Adelson is watching with interest, probably to decide if Chris Christie is worthy of all of his surplus millions. If Addelson can spend millions on Newt Gingrich before the primary, he can do more for a smart NJ dude with all the right moves to evade the Justice Department. Mitt had his “self-deport.” Why can’t Chris Christie have his “self-exonerate”? People do selfies all the time, especially savvy politicians who believe the voters are stupid, which is what Christie must believe after his recent performance.
Meanwhile Bridget Kelly’s counsel responds in the same unflattering way fashioned by Mastro and Christie himself:
The report’s venomous, gratuitous, and inappropriate sexist remarks concerning Ms. Kelly have no place in what is alleged to be a professional and independent report.
Non too subtle, comments of Kelly’s lawyer go on: “She worked tirelessly to pursue goals of the Christie administration,” thus highlighting that she was acting only on Christie’s behalf.
Bridget Kelly comes out with more class considering she is answering a crass bully who called her a liar and inexplicably stupid, not to mention Christie’s lawyer, Mastro painting her as an emotional cripple.
Women make up almost 51% of the population in this country. Christie still thinks he has a chance to run for president with what can easily be discerned as misogyny showing?
