Black Female Authors

Black Female Authors

By: Kathy Henry

It might sound clichéd, but even in the new millennium, it is hard being a woman, particularly a woman of color. We are attacked for our mothering skills, our lifestyle choices, and whatever we accomplish is never good enough. Women throughout the centuries have been confined to a very narrow definition of what a woman should be in relation to society and some women have led miserable lives trying to live up to these impossible standards. However, some women refused to be constrained by societal limitations and decided to fight back by using the written word as a weapon and Asafoanye Naa Sandra Rafaela is one of them.

Black Female Authors is a blog created by Ms. Rafaela and she features the books of Black women. Authors such as Fiona Lewis, Adrienne Thompson, and Gwandine Black Cherokee Cowgirl are some of the many wonderful writers on this blog. As a writer and an avid reader, I was pleased to find authors and books that I could relate to and pleased to see a Black female writer helping other Black female writers. If you want to read something new and intriguing, please check out Black Female Authors. You will not be disappointed.
